Graduate and Postdoctoral Education
The Rockefeller University has a long-standing tradition of preparing young investigators for careers in the biomedical and related sciences. It was the first American institution to offer preparation for such careers. For nearly a century it has offered postdoctoral training to scientists and physicians who have gone on to fill key positions at major research institutions, medical schools, hospitals, public service organizations, and corporations around the world. For nearly half a century, it has offered graduate training to some of the world's most promising future scientists, including two who have gone on to win the Nobel Prize.
Today, as the result of remarkable breakthroughs in molecular biology, computer science, and other technologies, a wealth of data is emerging from many critical areas of inquiry, including cell biology, immunology, structural biology, and neurobiology. Given the rapid expansion of scientific knowledge - and the possibilities for developing medical treatments unimagined even a decade ago - the need for biomedical research training is more important than ever.
